Clinical Opportunities

Getting hands-on experience in healthcare can be one of the most rewarding ways to learn about medicine. While shadowing is an important first step, true clinical opportunities allow students to interact more directly with patients and the healthcare team. These experiences help build confidence, communication skills, and an understanding of what it means to serve patients in real-world settings.

At Hands on Healthcare, we encourage students to explore a variety of pathways such as:

  • Junior EMT or First Responder programs (for students 16+)

    • Reach out to your local EMT squad and inquire about cadet programs. Some squads have cadet programs for students 14+.

  • Hospital volunteer programs in patient care areas

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant training for older high school students

  • Medical Scribe

  • Public health and community clinics where students may help with patient intake or health education
